| Name: | 'VR' Officials | |
| Year: | 1840 | |

| Description: | 'One penny blacks' and '2 pence blues' were the first official adhesive postage stamps issued and used in the world. The British stamp's center piece is a portrait of Queen Victoria. The style of royal portraits was followed by many countries. 'VR' Officials are scarce. The letters 'VR' (Victoria Regina) were hand punched over the ornaments in the upper corners. This was in preparation for official use, but never issued for postal purposes. The plates for the 2 pence blue with the V.R. in the upper corners were never made. | |
