| Denomination: | 1/2 tornesi | |
| Description: | Giuseppe Garibaldi captured Naples in 1860, liberating it from the Bourbon Monarchy. He established a provisional government and created 'new' provisional stamps. The new stamps were printed in blue instead of the rose color used by the Bourbons. The Trinacria (ancient name of Sicily) issue retained the Bourbon arms, but the 'G' for Grana was altered to a 'T' for Tornesi. Garibaldi devalued the stamp by half in an effort to reach out and communicate his political ideals with more of his people through the newspapers and other printed material. Only 100 stamps were printed. | |
