Cookies are tiny text files stored on your computer when you visit certain web pages. The Gnome Village uses cookies to keep track of what you have in your basket and to remember you when you return to our Stamp Club or Shopping Cart.

Cookies cannot harm your computer and do not contain any personal or private information.

Cookies store little bits of information to help web sites recognize you when you return.  Cookies are also very important in allowing Shopping Carts to save your items.  After all the hype about Cookies, there is very little (or no) evidence that they will give out your private information. 

There is also another type of cookie called a Session Cookie.  These are VERY important to many websites, such as ours, which need to determine if you've logged in or not.  These cookies are not permanent, and last only as long as your web browser is open.  They are automatically deleted if you haven't accessed (or refreshed) a page on our site within 20 minutes.  If you do not allow Session Cookies, then you probably cannot access several important features of our website, such as the on-line catalog, the Shopping Cart, and the Gnome Stamp Club.

To be safest, always check to see if you have the latest version of your web software.  Newer versions are always upgrading security holes which hackers exploit.  Take the time to download the latest version of your web browser.

How to enable cookies:

(If you do not know your browser version, select Help -> About... from your tool bar)

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

On a PC:

* Select Tools -> Internet Options and click on the "Privacy" tab.
* Click the Advanced button
* Check the "Override Automatic Cookie Handling box, and select:
* First-Party Cookies - Accept (unless you want to be prompted each time)
* Third-Party Cookies - Block (unless you want to be prompted each time)
* And check the box to "Always Allow Session Cookies"

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0

On a PC:

* Select Tools -> Internet Options and click on the "Security" tab.
* The default selection, "Medium", supports cookies, but you can click on the "Custom Level" button to check. Scroll down until you see the word "Cookies" and verify that the radio button next to "Enable" is selected in both options.

On a Mac:

* Select Edit -> Preferences.
* Scroll down until you see "Cookies" under Receiving Files. Make sure that "Never Ask" is selected.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (and 4.5 Macintosh)

On a PC:

* Select View -> Internet Options and click on the "Advanced" tab.
* Scroll down until you see the word "Cookies" and verify that the circle next to "Always accept cookies" is selected.

On a Macintosh:

* Select Edit -> Preferences.
* Scroll down until you see "Cookies" under Receiving Files. Make sure that "Never Ask" is selected. Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0
* Choose View -> Options and click on the "Advanced" tab.
* Make sure that "Warn before accepting a cookie" is unchecked.

Netscape Communicator 4.0

* Choose Edit -> Preferences and click on the "Advanced" option.
* Select the radio button next to "Accept all cookies" and click "OK".

Netscape Navigator 3.0

* Open "Network Preferences" under Options.
* Click on the "Protocols" tab and ensure that the box next to "Accepting A Cookie" is unchecked.
